The season of KOIWASHI anchovy

Hello, this is Mio.

The popular food of Hiroshima is oyster but the best season of it is winter.

In summer one of the most popular seafood is "Koiwashi", it means small anchovies.

These anchovies caught around Hiroshima is so fresh,

that it is suitable for eaten raw, as Sashimi.

Moreover Koiwashi tempra and ginger Koiwashi are local specialty of Hiroshima.

The Koiwashi season for fishing has opened on 10th of June,

and you can try them various restaurants in Hiroshima.

A Hiking Spot MITAKI

Last week,one guest ask us about a good place to hike.

He was interested in trekking and hiking ,of course he had already climbed to the Mt. Misen,

so we recommended Mitaki area to him.

Mitaki is one of the walking spot in Hiroshima,and it takes 5 min by train from Hiroshima station.

There is hiking course from Mitaki station or Yokogawa station(just next to Mitaki) to Mt.Mitaki 356 meters high.

Mitaki means three water falls.

Certainly along the hiking course there are three water falls.

Moreover there are some old temples, especialy Mitaki temple has quiet and beautiful garden.

You can enjoy hiking there in a calmly atmosphere with the sounds of water falls.

Though the weather report said it is a rainy season in Japan,

the summery days have continued for more than 1 week.

So, we have a camp trip at Miyajima island In this Friday.

Traditional restaurant ``SANZOKU``

On the last weekend I went to special place with my friends.

The name of the restaurant was ''Sanzoku'' in Yamaguchi pref.

It's a great day trip if you live in Yamaguchi or Hiroshima. Of course if you live or stay at our hostel you can go as well.

It is a small themed restaurant that serves traditional Japanese chicken on a stick

I have been to many restaurants in the world and none of them compare to this one.

It is also fun to walk around and see different sites that are close to the restaurant

Billiards and Darts Cafe in Hatsukaichi

pool cafe NICO is a cafe & bar and a billiards hall having 5 tables in Hatsukaichi.

You can enjoy the cafe, alcohol, billiards, darts and chatting with the cool owner.

The nearest station of this cafe is Rakurakuen of Hiroden Tram and it takes 15 min from Miyajimaguchi.

Triathlon in Miyajima in 2013

Hello, this is Mio.

On 23rd of June, a triathlon race is held in MIyajima Island and Hatsukaichi.

The participants swim from Itsukushima Shrine to opposite shore Hatsukaichi,

and climb the mountain 900 meters-high by bike and run. What a oppressive race!

Last month some participants stayed our hostel and preview the course.

Let's cheer them. "DON'T DIE!"

Fireworks Display in Hiroshima in 2013

During the summer in Japan, fireworks festivals are held nearly every week and of course in Hiroshima.

The purpose of those festival is not only watching the fireworks,

but enjoying the atmosphere of the festivals.

People dressed in yukata and streets lined by food and game stalls.

On the days of these festivals, it is difficult to book hotels,

moreover,buses and trains are crowed especially after the end of the show,

The rainy season started yesterday in Western Japan.

It lasts from the end of May to mid July.

The long rain may be depressing for tourists

but the Japanese gardens are beautiful at this time.

Flowers especially Iris and hydrangea look brighter when they are wet.

Anyway,hope it should be the good weather during your travel.

Don't forget to pick up an umbrella.

Hot Spring of Miyajima

Hello, this is Mio.

Yesterday, we were talking with one guset about Onsen, the Japanese hot spring,because she were going to Kyushu the famous area of hot spring.

There are some hot spring areas throughout Japan.

Of course, in Hiroshima you can try them.

In Miyajima,the Ryokan hotels supply hot springs and some of them offer a day package of bathing for day visitors,not to mention for hotel guests.

Miyahama Onsen the area close to Miyajima is also the hotspring facility built on a low hill along ROUTE 2.

You can enjoy the spa with a nice view of the Inland Sea.

For many visitors to Japan the onsen is a somewhat unfamiliar territory that they tend to overlook.

However, when you take a onsen, you have the opportunity to relax and and rid yourself of stress.

Moreover the onsen's chemical components stimulate your body in an integrated way.

Actually I used to work at a traditional onsen ryokan hotel,

so if you have any questions about onsen, please do not hesitate to ask me!

The Flea Market in Hiroshima

Hello, this is Mio.

Do you think it's hard to travel in Japan because of the expencive prices?

Indeed it is correct. One tomato is 200 yen at SevenEleven,

However there are some places to get nice things very cheaply in Japan.

It's a flea market.

At a flea market one T-shirt is 100 yen, one tea set is 50 yen and some rubbish is free!

Some flea markets are held on every other weekends in HIroshima city,

You may make a great find.

Today I introduce you the Japanese performing art KAGURA.

When you think about Japanese traditional performance arts, what comes to mind?

Kabuki and Noh are popular and Kagura is olso one of them.

Originally Kagura was a dance and a music dedicated to the Japanese shrine.

Today, Kagura has evolved in many directions and becomed a popular entertainment.

You can enjoy Kagura easily because the story of Kagura is simply understood and its dance is impressive.

The Chugoku region (Hiroshima, Shimane, Okayama, Yamaguchi, Tottori) is one of the most active area of Kagura in Japan.

The specific character of this regioni is powerful performances of high artistry with luxurious costumes.

Today is the last day of Japanese Golden Week.

Did you enjoy the holiday?

Or were you in trouble because it was difficult to reserve a hotel and a long-distance bus?

The ferries to Miyajima were full of passengers during the Golden Week.

and I was afraid they would have sank in the Setonaikai Sea :)

In our hostel, there were many guests throughout the holiday. Thank you, everyone!

After the Golden Week, the crowdedness　is calm down

and then you can stay and go sightseeing Miyajima more confortably now.
